Shots of Bonkers

Video: Shots of Bonkers

The story behind the mash-up, and the accompanying video, is somewhat bizarre:

Originally made by Kronic as a cool mash-up to play on last year’s Disco Disco tour, Shots of Bonkers became a viral phenomenon, traded by DJ’s across the globe, eventually finding it’s way onto a bevy of blogs. Last year, Kronic hosted an afterparty for LMFAO in Adeliade. Upon meeting each other, LMFAO’s DJ A!R excitedly asked Kronic is he was the Kronic behinds of Shot of Bonkers. Why yes, yes indeed.

Which is cool, but not that surprising. After all, LMFAO built their original fanbase through the blogs.

Fast forward to late January, where Kronic is supporting GrandMaster Flash at the Bedroom. Crooklyn Clan’s DJ Loki is on tour with Flash, and gets to talking with Kronic. They do a quick music swap, keep it moving. Several weeks later, we’re going through the Loki’s records, and we find a party break style’s record, that moves from Shots of Bonkers into Kronic’s Cocaine track (Which has a viral story of it’s own, for another time.)

But wait, there’s more:

A few friday’s ago, we ventured up to Brisbane to catch Snob Scrilla & Tom Piper finishing off their RadcakeFreshness tour at a small indie electro event at Empire. Just as Piper’s about to take the decks, Scrilla drops Shot of Bonkers, much to the excitement on the crowd. Freshness indeed. We later found out that inside Scrilla’s Serato, Shots of Bonkers wasn’t labeled as a DJ Kronic mash-up. Evidently, another DJ had put his name to it.

And finally, yesterday. A bunch of DJ’s were at our house, doing a photoshoot up stairs, and setting up 4 turntables up in the studio room for an epic jam. DJ Rectangle and Kartoon, who we’re in town for a gig, stopped by for a jam. Anyway, one of the DJ’s had a projector and was demonstrating his mad Serato video skills, ya’ll.

Which brings us to the Shots of Bonkers video you now see before you.

Dude drops it, and we go nuts. WTF? Who is making videos for our shit? Apparently, Johnny Rockit is, whoever he may be. Whats ironic, is that we started doing the video ourselves, but forgot to finish it.

So thank you Johnny Rockit. But if it’s not too much trouble, please let us know next time.
